Miss America pageant rips President Trump, but admits no proof of Russia collusion

Contestants and judges went above and beyond on Sunday night to get political in the 2018 Miss America pageant by taking particular aim at President Donald Trump.

Trump, who used to own both the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants, was criticized by Miss Texas Margana Wood for not condemning white supremacists following the violence that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia, which led to the death of 35-year-old Heather Heyer.

“I think that the white supremacist issue, it was very obvious, that it was a terrorist attack,” Wood said during her 20-second response. “And I think that President Donald Trump should’ve made a statement earlier addressing the fact, and in making sure all Americans feel safe in this country. That is the number one issue right now.”

Meanwhile, former American Idol contestant and singer Jordin Sparks, who served as a judge during the pageant, wanted to shine a little light on the Russia probe that’s currently hounding the Trump administration. Sparks asked 1st runner-up Miss Missouri Jennifer Davis, “There are multiple investigations into whether Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia on the election. Well, did they? You’re the jury: guilty or innocent? And please explain your verdict.”

Davis responded, “Right now, I would have to say innocent, because not enough information has been revealed. We are still investigating this and I think we should investigate it to its fullest extent. And if we do find the evidence that they have had collusion with Russia, then they should — the justice system should do their due diligence and they should be punished accordingly.”

Some believe that Davis’ fair response to Sparks’ question was the reason she didn’t win the pageant. Meanwhile, the pageant’s winner Miss North Dakota Cara Mund was asked about the Paris Climate Accord and President Trump’s decision to withdraw from it.

To the surprise of a few, Mund delivered the death blow to Trump they were looking for especially in light of hurricane season, saying, “I do believe it’s a bad decision. Once we reject that, we take ourselves out of the negotiation table. And that’s something that we really need to keep in mind. There is evidence that climate change is existing, so whether you believe it or not, we need to be at that table. And I think it’s just a bad decision on behalf of the United States.”
