Amid the ongoing feud between President Donald Trump and the NFL protesters who use the national anthem as a time to either take a knee, lock arms, or even hold up the “Black Power” fist, there’s something to be said about the players who continue to stand.

Some might say they’re patriotic Americans, who are simply paying respect to their country and the men and women who sacrificed to protect it. However, if you’ve read HuffPost recently, you would discover that they aren’t “patriotic” at all, but white supremacists instead.

According to HuffPost contributor Jesse Benn, who also happens to be a white male, believes that the white athletes who stood for the national anthem are endorsing white supremacy.

“Let’s at least be clear that what those players stood for on Sunday was white supremacy. Full stop,” Benn stated.

“See, for white athletes the anthem and American flag do represent freedom, liberty and whatever other amorphous American values one might ascribe these symbols,” Benn wrote. “So, from their view, kneeling would be disrespectful to the privileges a white supremacist nation affords them.”

He continued. “If white athletes can’t fathom kneeling because they feel soldiers fought for their rights and blah blah blah patriotism, it’s because they are treated as full citizens and afforded those rights they imagine soldiers fought for. Interpreting their own experience as something more universal, they struggle to understand why anyone should kneel. Indeed, for them, the anthem and American flag represent promises fulfilled.”

Benn says that these promises fulfilled are symptoms of white privilege because white people are unable to understand views outside of their own.

“This isn’t a matter of opinion. Statistics reveal disparities along racial lines regarding wealth, education, healthy food, employment, health care, housing, wages, criminal charges/sentences and practically every other imaginable measure of quality of life. This isn’t a mistake of history or attributable to individual or cultural traits of the oppressed. These are the results of centuries of systemic white supremacy, plain and simple,” Benn explained.

There’s no alternative explanation. Either you’re woke enough to understand there are problems in this country and take a knee for it or you’re a white supremacist. It’s this type of rhetoric that’s alienated so many people from the left. Identity politics and victimhood culture have made woke liberals absolutely insufferable to hear from. Their arguments are no longer based in rational thought. They’re based on what can get the most clicks.

I respect the NFL protesters and what they’re doing to raise awareness for their cause before Trump made his comments on Friday in Huntsville, AL. Ending police brutality and reforming the criminal justice system should absolutely be on the top of the priority list of every American. While the #TakeAKnee protest has been hijacked and turned into an anti-Trump gesture, I still understand the original intent that Colin Kaepernick made. Coming from the Right, I give Kaepernick and company the benefit of the doubt by listening to their side of the argument.

It’s now more important than ever to not question their American-ness because one of the finest qualities of being an American is being able to point out its flaws and develop plans of action to improve it.

White supremacy is certainly a problem in this country, but generalizing and assigning blame to people who have nothing to do with it is a gross misjudgment. The Left is turning into the boy who cried “white supremacy.” Eventually, it loses its meaning.

Maybe if people from both aisles spent time talking to the other side, we could avoid this type of radical and immensely irresponsible drivel.
