New legal defense team created to help College Republicans

In a speech delivered at Berkeley over the weekend, conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos announced his intention to create a legal defense team to protect conservative students from persecution on campus.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Yiannopoulos said that, “Free speech is under threat like never before on college campuses. A recent survey from the Brookings Institute paints an even scarier picture: 1 in 5 students are fine with violence as a response to unpopular or controversial speech. This is the devastating legacy of three decades of unchallenged progressivism on American college campuses.”
“We will go through this madness, and we will do it again and again and again, until conservative speakers are given the same rights and privileges as their left-wing counterparts at every college in the country,” he continued. “I will not rest until every student in America feels able to share their politics openly and proudly without fear of being marked down on essays, laughed at in the classroom or punished for inviting their speaker of choice.”
Yiannopoulos teamed up with Red Alert Politics contributor Ariana Rowlands, who is running for chair of the California College Republicans, to create the legal defense team designed to combat the oppression that students face on campus.
Yiannopoulos and Rowlands outlined the plan for the defense team, which would:
First, connect chartered College Republican chapters with free legal assistance should they need it.
Second, deter college administrations and instructors from suppressing College Republican chapters.
Third, provide assurance to College Republicans that they will be protected and that the organization they charter under will provide that protection.
The College Republicans plan to team up with the Shawn Steel Law Firm, Harmeet Dhillon Law Firm, and organizations like FreedomX and FIRE, which have worked to defend conservative students when they are targeted on campus.
Joshua Recalde-Martinez, Fundraising Director for the Rebuild CCR campaign for the California College Republicans, told Red Alert Politics that, “College administrations have teams of lawyers and professors have aggressive unions, while we college students have been left with little resources to defend our right from being suppressed. The creation of a California College Republicans Legal Defense Team comes from the necessity that students understand and can protect their rights on college campuses throughout this state, which has a long history of suppressing the free exchange of ideas, especially conservative ones, and which we hope this will rectify.”
Rowlands added, “You’ll be surprised with just how quickly a college administrator can snap back into shape when they’ve got checks from outraged alumni not being cut to the school, negative media attention, and a lawsuit breathing down their necks.”
