Professor forces students to watch video about microaggressions [VIDEO]

An adjunct professor at Queens College has students in her experimental psychology lab learning about microagressions.
Students watched an 18-minute video entitled “Microaggressions in the Classroom” which also comes with a resource guide titled, “Recognizing and Responding to Microaggressions.”
The video defines a microaggression as “something that someone says to someone else without knowing that it may be offensive” and explains that there are three kinds of microaggressions: microassaults, microinsults, and microinvalidations.
“It hurts so that’s how I know it’s a microaggression because it feels disrespectful,” one person explains to the camera.
It is particularly unique that students would be watching a video about a leftist theory because the class is a lab, where students apply experimental methods to psychological problems. The class is taught by Adjunct Professor Evelyn Ramirez.
“Experiments are conducted in a variety of areas chosen to give the student an appreciation of the range of current psychological research. Particular emphasis is given to the areas of experimental methodology, psychophysics, and learning,” an online course description states.
At least one student felt like the video did not match the intended course material and was concerned about the content of the video.
“We shouldn’t train students to be hypersensitive to every little comment. Additionally, there are fallacies in [the video’s] arguments,” one student, who wished to remain anonymous due to fear of retribution, told Red Alert Politics.
Experimental Psychology is a required undergraduate course for psychology majors at Queens College. When Red Alert Politics asked Queens College Psychology Department Chair Robert Lanson for comment, he asked for more information about the situation but refused to comment. Evelyn Ramirez, the professor of the course, also failed to respond to Red Alert’s request for comment.
