White supremacist group begins campus recruitment

Identity Evropa, a white supremacist group, has begun targeting college campuses in order to recruit students for its efforts. The group describes themselves as “a generation of awakened Europeans who have discovered that we are part of the great peoples, history, and civilization that flowed from the European continent.”

The white supremacist group recently tweeted photos of stickers placed around the campuses of Lynchburg College, Liberty University, and the University of Virginia, as well as Eastern Michigan University, University of California Irvine, University of Illinois, and Elizabethtown College.

In a letter sent to the campus community of Lynchburg College, Hayward Geunard, college vice president and dean for student development, wrote, “We have no evidence that suggests this sticker was posted by a member of our campus community, and we have not detected any further activity here… Based on advice previously given by local law enforcement, we chose to monitor the situation without giving the group the gratification of publicity. However, other outside groups have begun to reference the sticker, so it is important to publicly reaffirm our values and explain our response.”

Identity Evropa’s website communicates concern over their perceived censorship of ideas in the country.

“There is currently a full scale war being waged by the politico-corporate interests against the free speech and livelihood of any person or organization that attempts to speak truth in face of the mainstream anti-White narrative,” the website reads.

Geunard’s message makes it clear that infiltrating a college campus to spread an ideology is not the proper way to create dialogue on campus.

“As a private institution, we are not required to open our campus to outside groups,” Geunard’s letter continues.

Students from these schools condemned the actions of Identity Evropa.

“I think that if anyone was to post them on campus, they would be swiftly met by many with rejection, and they would be called out for promoting something so opposed to Christianity and the Gospel,” Liberty student, Sam Hermann, told The News & Advance.

“My reaction to the stickers was a bit of outrage, as well as disgust. I know that these posters would not be posted by a student, and that white nationalist groups are not welcome on a campus that prides itself in being a diverse, progressive, and inclusive environment,” wrote Lynchburg College student, Zachary Herendeen, told The News & Advance.

Identity Evropa’s campus propaganda, known as “Project Siege,” has appeared across the country. According to the Anti-Defamation League, there were 65 documented instances of Identity Evropa propaganda being circulated on college campuses in the 2016-2017 school year. As the 2017-2018 school year begins, it appears as though the trend will continue.
